Wind farm energy yield prediction and layout design

The ambition is to develop a new method based on model reduction and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for fast computation of the flow fields in large offshore wind farms.

The main goal of the work is to produce an effective demonstration of the model reduction technique for a controllable but relevant wind farm layout case where the turbines can be placed and moved arbitrarily in both horizontal directions.

A poster detailing the work on model reduction won a prize at the EWEA Offshore conference in March 2015. This video demonstrates the speed of the technique:
